first_imgLONDON (CMC):Ex-West Indies speedster, Fidel Edwards, will undergo surgery today to deal with a broken ankle sustained here last week during a freak accident.The right-armer, who was expected to spearhead Hampshire’s attack in the English County Championship which bowled off earlier this month, broke his ankle while playing football in warm-ups ahead of the final day’s play against Yorkshire last Wednesday.He was attempting to kick the ball when his foot got stuck in the turf, causing him to fall over in pain.”Unfortunately Fidel has had a serious break and will have to undergo surgery on Tuesday,” Giles White, Hampshire’s director of cricket said.”It’s a real shame for him, he has been unbelievable since he has been with us and has become an extremely popular member of the club.”We will support him through his recovery and look forward to having him back in a Hampshire shirt as soon as possible. He is a class act and the team will miss him.”The 34-year-old Edwards was brilliant for the club in just a handful of matches towards the end of last season, snaring an amazing 45 wickets.Hampshire on Monday announced that Edwards’ former Windies teammate, Tino Best, would be brought in as cover.last_img read more

first_img Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp Manchester City managerial target Jurgen Klopp has asked to leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer, according to German newspaper Bild.The 47-year-old, who has been linked with Liverpool in the past, wants to tear up his contract, which is due to run until 2018.Dortmund have had a disastrous season this campaign and, during the winter break, were in the Bundesliga relegation zone.The German giants have been knocked out of the Champions League by Juventus at the last-16 stage, and are believed to have targeted Thomas Tuchel as Klopp’s replacement.Tuchel had been linked with Hamburg, but no agreement has been officially reached, and it is believed the 41-year-old has been offered the chance to take over at the Westfalenstadion.The news will hand Manchester City a boost, after reports the Blues are ready to dump Manuel Pellegrini BEFORE the end of the season.Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti and Napoli chief Rafael Benitez are still the firm favourites to take over at the Etihad, but news of Klopp’s departure will interest City’s owners.The former Mainz manager has won the Bundesliga twice, the German cup and to the Champions League final, where they were beaten by Bayern Munich in 2013.Borussia Dortmund have called a press conference for 12:30pm, where it is expected Klopp will announce his departure. 1last_img read more
