first_imgA Diamond, East Bank Demerara man was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for incidentally assaulting a seven-year-old girl.Anansuaruddin Khan was charged for the offence in July, and his trial came to an end on Wednesday.Magistrate Judy Latchman handed down the sentence at the GeorgetownAnansuaruddin KhanMagistrates’ Courts. The 36-year-old man was told that the Court believed the evidence presented by the prosecution and as such, he was found guilty as charged.The charge had stated that between June 1 and June 30, 2017, in Georgetown, Khan indecently assaulted the seven-year-old girl. The accused was granted $150,000 bail on his first appearance. According to reports, Khan was entrusted by the girl’s mother to collect the child from school each day, dropping her home. However, he reportedly committed the act during one of their trips home. This was reported to the mother by the child. As such, the woman made a report to the Police, and Khan was arrested and charged.last_img read more

first_imgA construction worker lost his life Saturday after falling from the roof of the house he was working on at Corriverton, Region Six (East Berbice/Corentyne).Dead: Youraj SewlallDead is Youraj Sewlall, 29, of Number Nauth Village, Corentyne.Reports are the father of two and several others were constructing a house when he slipped and fell from the roof.This publication was told that when Sewlall fell he came into contract with an electric wire from the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) before hitting the ground where several colleagues rushed to his assistance.He was taken to the Skeldon Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police have since questioned all the workers as investigations continue.Sewlall leaves to mourn his wife and two children.last_img read more
